Contracts for Innovation are available for clean energy projects in Tanzania

Businesses are invited to apply for a share of up to £1.8 million to develop innovative clean energy demonstrators in Tanzania.

Funded by the British High Commission in Tanzania through the Ayrton Fund, this Contracts for Innovation competition aims to drive a clean energy transition and align with:

• Sustainable Development Goal 7:
• Sustainable Development Goal 13:

This competition will 91Ï㽶»ÆÉ«ÊÓƵ demonstration, development and field testing in the following focus areas:

• next-generation solar technologies
• smart energy systems
• energy storage solutions
• clean hydrogen innovation
• modern cooking services
• inclusive energy access for marginalised groups
• sustainable cooling systems
• zero-emissions generators

Funding is available from £200,000 to £800,000 per project (inclusive of VAT). To be eligible, projects must:

• partner with local organisations in Tanzania
• demonstrate or test innovations in real-life conditions in Tanzania for at least three months
• contribute to greenhouse gas reductions and ensure Tanzania benefits directly
• include a plan for commercialisation and an end-of-life strategy for the technology
• comply with Official Development Assistance (ODA) funding guidelines
• use local supply chains where reasonable

The activities 91Ï㽶»ÆÉ«ÊÓƵed by the project must be complete by 31 March 2026.
